We’re serious about the breakfast franchise business, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.
You probably already know that Huddle House is a Southern-style diner that’s open 24 hours in most markets and has made a name for itself serving up delicious comfort food at great prices. But we’re willing to bet there are at least 10 things you don’t know about our breakfast franchise.
- Football gave us our name. If you’ve ever wondered why we’re called Huddle House, it’s because our founder, John Sparks, saw a group of kids come into his restaurant after football practice and huddle up around their table. They not only reminded him of the values he wanted his new restaurant to embody, they gave him the inspiration for our name.
- One of our advantages is our fryer. One of the things that sets us apart from Waffle House, in addition to the fact that they don’t offer franchises, is that Huddle House kitchens have a fryer. That means guests can order fries with their burgers (instead of just griddled hash browns) and premium items like fried shrimp.
- Follow the bacon trail (and bring comfy shoes). We sell enough bacon every year to stretch from Anchorage to San Diego. Well, truth be told, you’re going to need another 126 miles of bacon, but it’s still impressive. For those of you trying to work out the math, that’s 38 million strips of bacon at an average of 6 inches each, or roughly 3,598 miles.
- Our largest multi-unit operator owns 18 locations in seven states. Gregg Hansen started with Huddle House in 2007 with his first two locations. Today, he owns Huddle House restaurants in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Indiana, Pennsylvania and North Dakota.
- Our chickens work hard. If just one hen laid the 40 million eggs we sell per year, it would actually take her more than 133,000 years. Which is why we rely on more than just one hen.
- We plan to grow 25% by 2019. We’ve got 400 locations open or in development in 21 states, and with our commitment to strategic growth, we’re planning to add another 100 units in the next few years. Guess we’ll be able to take that bacon trail all the way down to Puerto Vallarta.
- We ring the bell for our franchise partners. Every Tuesday at our corporate headquarters just outside Atlanta, we have a staff meeting to celebrate our accomplishments. Whenever one of our team members shares a success story or a new franchisee joins our ranks, we ring a bell and cheer them on.
- Repeat guests eat at Huddle House an average of 47 times a year. That’s more often than most people eat dessert. There’s a lot of love behind that guest loyalty. We strive to provide Southern hospitality and delicious food at a great value, and that’s what keeps them coming back.
- Our biggest sales day of the year is Christmas Day. We’re honored that so many people choose to enjoy a meal with their Huddle House family on one of the most family-oriented holidays of the year.
- We’ve been in business for over half a century. We were founded in 1964, and the core values we embraced when our franchise was founded — serving freshly prepared, delicious food in a friendly environment that brings the community together — are as true today as they were 50 years ago.
