Huddle House Franchise Sees Evolution Store Model Grow Sales

Iconic breakfast franchise experiences positive results from store redesign.

With more than 400 breakfast franchise restaurants open and under development, our 51-year old brand is growing well beyond our original core market in the Southeast and into markets in the Midwest and Northeast. The expansion is gaining momentum as a result of our “Evolution,” remodeling campaign, which is giving us a modern look and feel as we enter a new era for our iconic brand.

At breakfast franchise locations that have gone through the redesign, owners are finding that the chic new look is having a substantial effect on their revenue streams. As published in our August 10 2015 FDD, our top 20% remodeled stores experienced a 33.8% increase in average annualized unit volume in their first year after remodel over the previous year!

“I can honestly say that the sales lift we’re getting is truly phenomenal,” says Alison Delaney, Chief Marketing Officer with Huddle House, in a recent interview with Nation’s Restaurant News. “We are three years into our remodeling effort and have lots of data. Not only do our remodeled restaurants experience a tremendous surge once they’re open, we hold on to those increases throughout the first year and into the years beyond. In other words, for the most part, we don’t give back the initial sales generated based on the tremendous interest in the refurbished facility.”

What is the iconic breakfast franchise’s chic new look?

Huddle House Fried Chicken MealWith its new building prototype, contemporary furniture, LED lighting, and updated menu offerings, the Huddle House franchise made the cover of Restaurant Facility Business magazine as master of “the art of evolution” for changing with the times throughout a 51-year history.

Restaurant Facility Business recognized us most notably for remodeling the exterior with a “signature tall tower entrance that draws the eye upward,” as well as our interior with “warm colors, contemporary furniture including upholstered booth seating and vibrant lighting.” That was just the image we were going for.

Over a quarter of our stores were remodeled by the end of 2014, with 15 more completed in the first eight months of 2015. We plan to have all of our locations remodeled by 2019.

The remodel is part of our ambitious nationwide expansion

During the first eight months of 2015, the Huddle House breakfast franchise signed 23 new franchise locations across 10 states in the Southeast, Midwest, and Northeast. We’ve added to our franchise development staff to support an aggressive campaign and fulfill our vision of expansion over the next three years.
