Michael Abt Huddle House franchise CEOHuddle House continues to attract press attention throughout our 50-year anniversary. The Nation’s Restaurant News interviewed CEO Michael Abt about our remodeling venture, reinvigorated marketing and revamped menu.

Abt discussed with NRN the profitability of building renovations — our Evolution redesign — as well as marketing with menu and product development.

“We have a prototype restaurant that we developed about two years ago,” Michael told the trade publication. “For the 45 remodels that have been completed since June of 2013, we’re realizing a 16.1 percent same-store-sales increase. Last year we also developed a remodel incentive program that gives $25,000 to any franchise partner who remodels.”

Huddle House franchiseSince 2012, Michael has been leading the charge at our ’round-the-clock family restaurant franchise, known for serving affordable homestyle food in a warm, friendly environment. Our locations are often beloved gathering places in their communities, places where residents and travelers can get breakfast, lunch and dinner any time of the day or night. With over 400 restaurants open and under development, the 50-year old franchise is growing well beyond its original core market in the Southeast and into markets in the West, Midwest and Northeast.

“We have a unique approach in serving nostalgic and unapologetically comfort and diner food,” said Jonathan Benjamin, our chief development officer. “We do so with an authentic Southern hospitality, where team members get to know customers, treat them kindly and go the extra mile to make sure they enjoy their visit.”

Michael told NRN that remodeling costs range from $100,000 to $120,000, and that our franchisees see a quick return on their investment, since redesigned stores have already seen a spike in sales.
